Revit Add-in: C-Sheet Creator
The Brief
FDG approached BIM Monkey for assistance in automating their drawing process. As with most architectural practices, FDG often have a large number of elevational sheets of each room within a scheme to create (also known as c-sheets or sometime room data sheets).
FDG have experience of creating scripts with Dynamo and have used this in the past to automate the creation of these c-sheets, however the maintenance of these scripts can be a job in itself, especially if knowledge leaves the company.
Therefore, FDG decided to look at other routes to solve this, and decided on BIM Monkey due to the fact an add-in which is bespoke to their systems could be created; this in turn could save even more time than an off the shelf add-in.

The Solution
Our goal for FDG was to make the process of creating c-sheets as user friendly as possible while working to their drawing style, sheet template, and parameters.
We decided the best method for this would be to physically select the rooms that users wanted to create c-sheets from either a floor plan or list of rooms.
Once desired rooms have been selected the user can then navigate to our bespoke c-sheet creator button from our Monkey Bar ribbon.
A window will then appear, presenting options for which view and sheet templates present in the model may be used, these options can be saved and loaded for future sessions. There is also an option for elements within the plan and elevation views to be automatically tagged.
Once selected the add-in will run and auto-generate all views and schedules onto a sheet for every room that has been selected. Views will be scaled and cropped appropriately to ensure all elements fit within allotted spaces on the sheet regardless of the rooms size. Any parameters that can be auto-generated will also be filled in.
One sheet can be generated in seconds, leaving the user to then tidy anything up and apply any intricacies that cannot be automated.
C-sheets can be a very time-consuming process to setup, this can be seen even more so with projects that require a large number of rooms to be drawn. The use of this add-in can drastically reduce time from something that might take 45-90 minutes to do manually to 10-30 minutes to do with the aid of an add-in per sheet.
