Revit Add-in: Coordinate Locator

The Brief

Millson Group frequently conduct their own site surveys. In order to get the necessary degree of accuracy it is important for coordinates in Revit to correspond to those on site.

Coordinates can easily be found in Revit by using the spot coordinate annotation tool, which means this information does exist within Revit’s API, however it is not possible to schedule these invisible coordinate parameters.

Therefore the design team at Millson Group have to manually type each coordinate into a table if they wish to provide the site team with a list which they can input into their surveying equipment.

Manually inputting coordinates is not only time consuming (due to the number of digits each coordinate has) but is also prone to human error. This can be further compounded if coordinates ever need updating.

The importance of ensuring coordinates is arguable the single most important task on site, as it ensures building are in the correct place and legal boundaries are not encroached.

The Client

The Solution

We decided to find a way to automate the process that MIllson Group had previously been doing manually.

To do this we first created a marker which Millsons could use to place at various locations.

This marker has the following parameters inbuilt within:

Having this marker means users at Millsons can place it at locations within their project where they require coordinates to be scheduled.

We also created a bespoke add-in which sits within Millsons’s Revit Ribbon, on our MonkeyBar. This add-in comprises of two buttons; one to place a marker and one that when selected updates all parameters within each placed marker. Meaning users can accurately create a schedule of locations of all markers.
